October 2020 : Run and time yourself any time during the month
Map: O.S. Landranger 37, Strathdon (ref 410044)
The Full Morven course (8km, 640m climb) takes a direct route up Morven above the ruined cottage of Balhennie, starting on the walker’s access path by the roadside. It follows good tracks all the way but is not marked this year. The initial steep section above Balhennie is avoided on the descent by the gentler landrover track which descends diagonally NE to Balhennie from the coll below Roar Hill (ref 395033).
There is a Strava segment for the route – ‘Morven virtual hill race route 2020’
Safety – Minimum kit recommendations:- Full body cover to be carried. Map, compass & whistle depending on conditions on the day.
Getting there: Travelling from Aberdeen, take either the A93 from Aberdeen to Dinnet or the B9119 via Tarland. From Dinnet follow the A97 Huntly road and then the minor road that is signposted to Groddie. The Groddie turn is about 8km from Dinnet.
Parking is at the road end at Groddie.
Race route start and finish is just inside the gate for the walker’s route.
NOTE:- DOGS must be kept on a lead – there are sheep in the area.
