DESS WOODS NIGHT RACE 2017: RACE REPORT

Just about perfect conditions for a winter night race. Still, full moon and snow on the ground. Dess Woods, the second in a three race winter series organised by Deeside Runners was won by Hamish Battle, Metro Aberdeen RC, in a new record time of 34.33. First female was Sally Wallis, Deeside, in 42.12. Two juniors to watch. Joseph Wright was fourth overall in a time of 36.37 and Eilidh Campbell was first junior female in 44.23. Thanks to all the marshalls and Deeside Activity Centre for the excellent after run soup and BBQ. Final race in the series is Potarch Hill on 9 February.

Great weather for the final championship race of the season with a 300strong field leading to a new course record.

James continued a fine season with hardly a race he has not been competing in the closing yards, winning many. So full congrats to him for a fine 7th in the championship.

Deeside ladies continued their fin turnout and having already picked up the Ladies champion and Ladies Team Champions the main interest was could the Ladies vets match them. Sam, Marie, Clare and Jane all put in great performances and word on the street is that Fife AC sneaked in a track runner resulting in a fine 2nd place for the girls.

Alan, Katie and Duncan made it a decent number of mugs (collector’s pieces in a few years time I am sure) to be picked up after the Dumyat Dash.
